Mahia te kaheru matarau
We're making data and information about whenua accessible and usable to whānau. There are many facets to consider for land use decision-making - from reconnecting whānau to whenua, to working with characteristics of their whenua to nurture the land.
We want to help land owners and whānau to have conversations about their whenua and potential land use opportunities in a way that is supported by current research. As a collective, you will be able to engage in discussions that help to shape future aspirations for your whenua and create positive pathways for your uri.

Our Land and Water
Our Land and Water are one of the 11 National Science Challenges. Its purpose has been to undertake research that aims to protect and preserve the land, water and associated ecosystems for future generations, while continuing to produce value. Connecting land use data to Māori land owners through Matarau has been one of the Our Land and Water funded projects.
